Disclaimer & Boundaries

If long pages are hard to read, you can start with the TL;DR and then only read the sections you need.

TL;DR

Quietly Neurodivergent shares information, experiences and ideas about being autistic, ADHD or otherwise neurodivergent.

  • It is not a place to get a diagnosis, medical advice, legal advice or emergency support.
  • Anything you read here is general information, not a professional assessment or treatment plan.
  • If you’re in crisis, please contact local emergency or crisis services.
  • Always check important decisions (health, money, legal issues, safety) with a qualified professional who knows your situation.

Who this site is for

Quietly Neurodivergent is mainly for:

  • autistic, ADHD and otherwise neurodivergent people from around age 16 upwards, and
  • people who want to understand our experiences better (for example, family, friends, educators or managers).

The focus is on:

  • study and work,
  • everyday life and energy management,
  • making sense of neurodivergent experiences.

It is not aimed at professionals looking for clinical guidance.

Not medical, diagnostic or therapeutic advice

This site is not:

  • a place to get a diagnosis,
  • medical or psychiatric advice,
  • a substitute for therapy, counselling or coaching,
  • occupational health or workplace medical advice.

Articles may:

  • talk about mental health, burnout or disability,
  • describe strategies that have helped some people,
  • mention research or clinical ideas in plain language.

They do not:

  • assess your specific situation,
  • tell you what medication or treatment you should use,
  • replace discussions with your GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist or other clinician.

If you’re thinking about changing medication, treatment or support, please talk to a qualified professional who knows your history and context.

No emergency or crisis support

Quietly Neurodivergent is not able to provide crisis support.

  • There is no 24/7 monitoring of emails or messages.
  • I cannot guarantee a quick reply.
  • I cannot safely support people in active crisis by email.

If you feel at risk of harming yourself or someone else, or feel unable to stay safe, please contact local emergency or crisis services.

Examples in the UK include:

  • 999 – for emergencies
  • NHS 111 – for urgent medical help
  • Samaritans – free listening service on 116 123, plus email and other options

If phone calls are difficult, check whether services in your area offer text, webchat or email alternatives.

Not legal, financial or employment advice

Sometimes posts mention:

  • rights at school, university or work,
  • reasonable adjustments and accommodations,
  • benefits, money and employment,
  • discrimination, harassment or bullying.

This information is general and may not fit your situation.

It is not:

  • legal advice,
  • financial advice,
  • professional HR/employment advice.

Laws and policies change, and they can be applied differently in different places. If you need to make decisions about your income, housing, immigration status, legal position or employment, please speak to a qualified adviser or lawyer in your area.

Accuracy, limitations and updates

I (Andrew Wright) try to:

  • keep information accurate and up to date,
  • clearly separate personal opinion from fact,
  • correct mistakes when I become aware of them.

However:

  • I can’t guarantee everything is complete, current or suitable for your exact situation.
  • Research, law and practice change over time.
  • Posts may become out of date without me noticing immediately.

If you spot something that looks wrong, confusing or outdated, you are very welcome to email [email protected] so I can review it.

Diversity of neurodivergent experience

Neurodivergent people are not all the same.

Content on this site:

  • reflects my own experiences and those of others who share theirs,
  • may draw on research and community conversations,
  • cannot represent every autistic, ADHD or otherwise neurodivergent person.

You might find that:

  • some posts feel very accurate for you,
  • some feel partly right,
  • some don’t fit at all.

Please take what helps and leave what doesn’t. Your experience is valid, even if it doesn’t match what’s described here.

External links and third-party content

Posts sometimes link to other websites, tools or resources.

  • I don’t control these external sites.
  • I can’t guarantee their accessibility, content, safety or privacy practices.
  • Links are provided for convenience or interest; following them is your decision.

The Privacy policy explains how external services like analytics and advertising work on this site.

Comments and community spaces

If comments or other interactive features are available:

  • they are moderated as time and capacity allow;
  • I may remove or edit comments that are harmful, abusive, spammy or unsafe;
  • I may close comments on posts that attract hostility or become overwhelming to manage.

Personal responsibility

By using this site, you agree that:

  • you are responsible for how you use the information here,
  • you will seek professional or emergency support where needed,
  • you won’t treat this site as a replacement for medical, legal, financial or crisis advice.

Nothing on this website is intended to create a professional relationship (for example, therapist–client, doctor–patient, lawyer–client).

Changes to this page

I may update this page from time to time, for example if:

  • the focus of the site shifts,
  • I add new types of content or services,
  • I need to clarify these boundaries.

When I make important changes, I will:

  • update the “Last updated” date at the top, and
  • where relevant, add a brief note summarising the changes.
